| The Ducky River Trip Experience: So you're thinking about taking a ducky trip. Good for you! Duckies are an amazing way to see the river. We offer Ducky Trips on four rivers: the Chattooga, the French Broad, the Nantahala and the Nolichucky. Guided Ducky trips are available on all four of these rivers, and on the Nantahala you have the option of renting a Ducky and going down the river on your own.
The River Trip Experience in a Ducky is as individual as you are. If you have never rafted or kayaked before, seeing the river in a Ducky is an awesome introduction to whitewater. After watching an introductory video explaining the basics of whitewater navigation you will be shuttled to the put-in of the river and begin your adventure. Our professional river guides will point you in the right direction, showing you the best routes through rapids and work with you to develop your paddling skills. If you have rafted or kayaked before, our river guides will help you take your paddling to the next level so you can have even more fun on the river. On all Ducky trips you are likely to see many varieties of wildlife in their natural habitats--floating or swimming right along with you low on the water.
On the Nantahala River, you have the option of renting a Ducky and guiding your own trip. If you've seen those Subaru commercials and ever wondered what kayaking was all about, this is your chance to find out on an easy flowing whitewater river.
Ducky Trip FAQ: Q: What are Duckies anyway? A: In many ways Duckies are the most versatile craft on the river. Duckies are small, personal inflatable kayaks. Duckies are the perfect craft to see the river up close and personally. Like bumper cars in an amusement park, Duckies allow you to be the captain of your own destiny and enjoy maximum thrills. Close to the water in a Ducky, even small rapids can seem like massive ocean waves.
Q: Are Duckies suitable for children? A: Absolutely! Duckies are fun for people of all ages. Kids have a blast going down the river in Duckies.
Q: Are Duckies just for kids then? A: Not at all! While Duckies are great fun for kids, in the hands of the adventurous, Duckies are high-performance inflatables. Think of them as the Ferraris of the whitewater rafting industry. In Duckies you can tear up a river and make it your own. On the Nantahala, you can crash the eddy line at Whirpool Rapid and be whipped around 360 degrees, master peel outs, ferry across the river, and surf river style to your heart's content at Three Sisters rapid or in other locations all along the river. On the Chattooga you can have an unequalled personal wilderness experience in a Ducky. And on the French Broad or Nolichucky you can have all of that and everything in between. The French Broad offers wide open spaces and the Nolichucky offers tight and technical challenges for those really wanting to test themselves.
Q: Do Duckies flip over? A: Sometimes. Like all whitewater rafting trips, there are inherent risks in a Ducky trip and one of them is the possibility of flipping over and swimming. We teach you what to do in that situation and on guided Ducky trips our professional river guides are available to help you.
Q: We had a blast going down the Nantahala River in a Ducky. Do you have any other activities that offer similar experiences? A: YES! Duckies are the perfect transition from whitewater rafting to kayaking. We have a rich and varied kayak instruction program here at NOC with clinics and programs suitable for individuals of all ages, skill and comfort levels. Our instructors are among the finest in the industry. Our instruction department is headed up by U.S. Olympian Wayne Dickert. Wayne and his team work hard developing programs that are safe, fun, and tailored to your needs to help you get the most out of every instruction experience.
