The final results for the 2006 NOC/Subaru 8-Hour Adventure Race are available. We are sorry for the delay in posting, but we needed to carefully review all passports and times before releasing the final results to you.
1. To determine the final results, we used the times recorded at CP7, CP15 and the Final time. Each team's start time was 7 a.m. Passport stamps and the pounds/ounces of trash collected completed the set of data we used in reaching the final results. There were nine teams who correctly recorded all check points per the data. Following the scoring system we deducted one hour for missed check points, credited one minute for every 8 ozs. of trash collected and used the alternate route for teams reaching CP15 at 1:30 or later. These are the final results for the race. In the Coed class and the Male class there were some place changes and those teams have been personally contacted by me to notify them of the results. The top three team results did not change in either class.
2. We did not make allowances for the wrong course direction given at the Thompson Loop or the incorrectly placed and now infamous CP23. We thought long and hard about this and consulted within our AR development team. The outcome is that everyone suffered through and ultimately triumphed over this course. All of you arrived back at NOC under your own power and we remain impressed with the mental and physical strength you displayed as you endured a challenging race course. Along the way you collected almost 550 pounds of trash, which is an extraordinary achievement. There is much to congratulate you for.
3. We are sorry for the problems encountered on the course. Our first two AR events in prior years went without any course direction problems, and this one did not. We are disappointed about the mistakes and take full responsibility. We did not measure up to the excellence of NOC's events in this race. Your feedback is very valuable to us because it provides us with an opportunity to learn from you, the experts in this sport, and to do better next time. We hope you will give us the chance to show you that we have learned from this in our next race. Again, we welcome your help to make our AR events the best they can be. We hope to see you here at NOC in the future.
Sincerely,
Kathy Allison, Special Events Director and the adventure race team.
