Mexico Intermediate I Women
Enhance You Skills in a New LandExperience the lush scenery and exhilarating rapids of Veracruz, Mexico under the guidance of one of the world's top paddlers, Dagger Team Member and Girls at Play Founder, Anna Levesque. You'll be based out of the history-rich town of Jalcomulco, a quaint, slow-paced community nestled in the mountains of the Sierra Madre Orientales. The friendly people, aquamarine whitewater, enchanting jungles and delicious food make Jalcomulco the perfect base of operations for your Mexican adventure. We'll warm-up on a Class II section of the Antiqua River, bang the rust off our strokes and work on the roll the first day. The following day we'll head to the Lower Canyon of the Antigua. This Class II-III drop-pool section of river is ideal for reinforcing river reading skills. The next morning is slow paced to give our bodies and minds a break. A late morning yoga class followed by breakfast will start us off on the right foot. The rest of the morning can be spent relaxing in the hammocks, walking around the village or exploring a short hike through the jungle to a charming natural swimming hole. After lunch we'll run a section of the Antigua that starts in Jalcomulco and ends in the next village. This is a short run that has some great confidence-building Class III rapids. Then we'll travel to the Actopan, a spring-born river with crystal clear aquamarine water—arguably one of the most beautiful rivers on earth! We'll put in next to a riverside restaurant where there are great eddies and current to work on ferries and s-turns. From here we'll head down through Class II-III continuous rapids, stopping for lunch under sweet-smelling mango trees. Later that night we'll participate in a Temazcal. This Mexican sweat lodge ceremony will leave us relaxed and rejuvenated, and prepare us for tomorrow's run over the friendly and fun 15-foot waterfall on the Upper Actopan. Our final day paddling will be spent creeking the clean waterfalls and slides of the Tomata or Alseseca Rivers. |
