Road Biking
Miles of Mountain Cycling
For years, NOC staffers have took to the highway on two wheels, for fun, for fitness and for a new view of our beloved home. Many road bikers come to Western North Carolina to train for racing and endurance. The broad, sweeping highways and curvy mountain climbs provide great challenges and scenery for the avid road cyclist. Riders of all levels can even join in on weekly group rides with NOC staff.

Whittier Road Ride Loosely organized by the Bike Shop at NOC, the weekly Whittier Ride has been an institution among western North Carolina road cyclists for more than 10 years. Every Wednesday, this rolling 22-mile loop begins at East Swain Elementary School at 6 p.m., spring through fall. The ride usually includes experienced riders as well as some casual folks out to enjoy the scenery and the camaraderie.
Tour de Nantahala This NOC-sponsored ride is quickly becoming a fall classic! The 106-mile Nantahala Nightmare is complemented by less-daunting 45- and 65-mile loops, all on the blacktop that surrounds NOC in Graham, Macon and Swain Counties.
Fletcher Flyer This full-century ride in Fletcher, NC promotes the sport and lifestyle of road cycling. Presented by the Blue Ridge Bicycling Club, NOC is a sponsor of this advocacy ride, which makes a great first century for the budding cyclist.
