Teens Intermediate I
Ages 12-14
Push past
the basics with other teens in a supportive, fun learning setting.
NOC's
Intermediate I whitewater teens programs provide an intensive instructional
experience with two goals: expanding boating skill and having fun! These
classes are for teens who have some paddling experience and are looking to
perfect their skills and make the jump to becoming strong intermediate
paddlers. Hey Teens! Check out a Daily Camp Journal to see what other teens have
done at camp in the past. Parents, read on for some Frequently Asked Questions.

What is included? Every course features an all-inclusive package with instruction,
transportation, meals, lodging, 24-hour supervision and equipment at no
additional cost. Similar to most other summer camp programs, we handle everything
from the time you drop your kid(s) off at NOC to the time you pick them up on
Friday and all stuff in between. Even though we provide technical gear, most teens
like to have spending money for our Outfitter's Store,
where you'll receive a discount on boats, paddling equipment and accessories. Where will my child stay? Teens share "gender specific" cabin lodging (linens provided) with a
"same gender" instructor providing 24-hour supervision. We have found
that a tired paddler is not a very good one, so curfew is 11 pm for teens. What is your student to instructor ratio? The 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio gives plenty of individual attention and an
opportunity for more fun and personal growth. What certifications do your instructors hold? All of our instructors are professionally-certified kayak instructors
with a minimum of Wilderness First Aid and CPR. NOC maintains a high level of
rigorous internal training for our instructors in river safety and rescue.
How hard
is the whitewater my child will paddle? Safety is a priority for NOC. We provide the best security possible on, and
off, the river while teaching how to manage unforeseen challenges on the water.
This teen program will paddle Class II-III whitewater with Nantahala Falls
being a goal for Family Fun Day. If you are not sure how rapids are classified,
visit the AW International Scale of River Difficulty page. What's Family Fun Friday? All Teens' Week programs feature a special Family Fun Friday where parents are
invited (and encouraged!) to join the instructors and teens on Friday morning
for a paddle down the Nantahala River together. Parents and family can bring
their own boat or rent a ducky or raft. All groups will then meet at NOC for a
deli style picnic lunch, then be able to head out around 2pm on Friday. Be
prepared to listening to your kid's stories of fun and excitement all the way
home.
