Develop basic flatwater skills and explore the beautiful lakes of the Nantahala area.

Get ready to leave your stress at home and explore the world of kayak touring. We'll help you develop basic skills and techniques for an enjoyable outdoor experience, discovering hidden treasures of scenic beauty. Your instructor will help you develop an efficient paddling style and incorporate some outdoors skills, leaving you poised for your own kayak fishing, kayak photography or any other type of flatwater trip.

We'll explore local history and introduce ourselves to the diversity of flora and fauna in the Great Smoky Mountains. We provide everything you need for a relaxing experience, hassle free. In the evenings, your group will stay in our Mountain Cabins, with meals provided by Relia's Garden Restaurant.

Itinerary
Each class varies with the needs and desires of the group but the following is an example of your potential itinerary.

Friday
Begin with dinner at Relia's Garden Restaurant, and meet your instructors and the others in your group. After dinner, you'll share goals for the weekend and have a chance to review the activities of the upcoming days and relax.

Saturday
After breakfast, you'll choose a boat and gear that will help make the weekend enjoyable. The next stop will be nearby Fontana Lake for a skills introduction. After you become proficient at paddling, we'll set off on a short trip. A deli-style lunch offers a midday break in our exploration of Appalachian lakes. Finish the day with a great meal and the chance to share stories of the day's adventures at the Paddler's Pub.

Sunday
Today, we'll travel to another nearby lake for a full day of touring and relaxing. Some of the more popular lakes in our area are Calderwood, Santeetlah and Cheoah. Hidden treasures of scenic beauty and natural history abound on these lakes. Our instructors are experts at identifying wildlife and other areas of interest. Finish the day with a farewell dinner. You'll also receive one of our coveted NOC Instruction t-shirts before saying goodbye to your new friends.
