Hiking Opportunities in Western North Carolina

Miles of Scenic Trails

Nestled in the Nantahala National Forest at the southern edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, NOC offers incredible hiking opportunities. The Georgia-to-Maine Appalachian Trail cuts through the heart of our campus. Throughout the year, Appalachian Trail hikers can be found resting and re-energizing at NOC's Outfitter's Store, restaurants or lodging. NOC is a perfect basecamp for dozens of area day hikes. Our knowledgeable staff can help you choose the route that's best for you, whether you're looking for mountaintop views, challenging terrain or a family hike with little ones.

Stop by our Outfitter's Store for area trail information, maps and guidebooks. Our friendly staff can answer any questions you may have about where to hike and when. It's also a great place to pick up gear including tents, packs, poles, trail snacks and more!
