ACA Swift Water Rescue

Swiftwater Rescue (SWR) at SOLO is a two-day, 16-hr class which teaches recognition and avoidance of common river hazards. Developed by the American Canoe Association (ACA), this class focuses on prevention and teaches students to execute rescues using a range of techniques. Emphasis is placed on personal safety and all students are encouraged but not required to participate in each individual course module.

Skills commonly taught in this class include, self-rescue, strainer avoidance, rescue vest applications, boat entrapments, use of mechanical systems and more. Students have the opportunity to practice SWR skills individually as well as work in groups as a member of a rescue team. The class is designed to improve participants rescue skills as well as facilitate a greater overall level of awareness on the river.

Requirements: Class II river running ability (preferred)
Gear: PFD, helmet, (both are available for loan), river shoes (no crocs), clothing suitable for extended submersion in cold water, whistle, throw rope, 15-ft one-inch tubular nylon webbing, two prusik loops, and two locking carabiners. All equipment can be purchased from our store during class.
Check In Time: 8:30 am on first day of course

Lodging: NOC lodging is available at additional cost.
