Get Out and Play!

For those who sant to simply have fun and encourage each other to step up their playboating skills, the format of a Hometown Throwdown is quite straightforward: Two rides and you go home. Points are awarded for EVERYTHING! Front surfs, loops, and space chickens all count and everyone has a shot. This is NOT a pro event, but we do invite pros to come out and coach and score...don't be surprised to see one or two hanging around.

Raffle Prizes!

We do keep score, and results are posted at the end of the competition, but prizes are awarded by raffle, not by place. Usually, every competitor walks away with a prize from our generous sponsors.

Points Series

New in 2012, World Kayak has set up a Points Series that will rank paddlers on a local, regional, and national level. This unique system uses both participation and placement in events to determine rankings at the end of the season. To participate in the Points Series, you need to join World Kayak and pay an annual fee of $10. You do not need to join the Points Series to compete in Hometown Throwdown events. Click here for more information on the World Kayak Southeast Championships, and to find out how you can get ranked.

Visit the World Kayak Nantahala page for more information about events on the Nantahala and in Western North Carolina.
