Be the Fastest on the Nanty

Join us on the Nantahala this Saturday, June 9th, for the inaugural Nantahala River Raft Race, to see which four-person crew is really the fastest on the Nantahala. Families, friends, outfitters, raft guides, and river rats are welcome to participate in this race to win Gorge bragging rights for the rest of the summer.

The race will start at the Ferebee Park put-in, and teams will paddle five miles to the Nantahala Bridge Gates, testing not only speed and endurance, but also precision, as teams will negotiate several raft-sized gates through the Nantahala Falls. The race will be a mass start, though depending on participation there may be several heats. 

Come out for a day of good-natured, on-the-water competition and stay to help us celebrate NOC's 40th Anniversary at Slow Joe's Cafe. We'll kick off with a word from the Founders, who will also announce this year's Raft Race Champions and award the prizes. Then, enjoy good food, live music, and dancing as we say thank you for a great 40 years.

2012 Nantahala River Raft Race Schedule

Race Cost: $40/team

All teams need: a Team Name, 4 paddlers, and must attend a standard NOC pre-trip safety video. Race bibs, rafts and rafting equipment will be provided by NOC. A plaque commemorating the winning team will be displayed at River's End Restaurant for the year to come. NOC will also brag about your team on noc.com and on NOC's Facebook page.
