A Hands-On Week of Environmental Awareness April 19–30, 2010
NOC's Watershed Week will run from April 19 through 30. Most of our river outposts will conduct river clean-ups or other environmental projects throughout the week, in a concerted effort to maintain the health of our outdoor playgrounds.
Events at NOC French Broad
At the French Broad Festival AW is partnering with Riverlink and NOC to coordinate a river cleanup on the French Broad, Friday April 30. Volunteers meet at NOC's Walnut outpost at 10am. NOC will provide a free shuttle and lunch for volunteers. This event is open to the public, and both rafters and paddlers are needed. Boaters should be comfortable paddling Class III-IV whitewater. Volunteers must be at least 8 years of age to raft the French Broad River and signed waivers will be required for all participants. Anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The river cleanup gives volunteers the opportunity to improve the quality of the river while enjoying all it has to offer. A small reception will be hosted at NOC at 4pm as the event wraps up. Anyone interested in participating in the cleanup should email
