Chile: The Patagonia Adventure
Intermediate II / Advanced Kayak

February 1-10, 2008
$2,800

The Patagonia adventure has it all! Beautiful scenery coupled with awesome whitewater, including a climax on the world famous Futaleufu River. It doesn't get any better than this for Adventure Travel.

Few landscapes in the world rival the magnificence of Chilean Patagonia, a wild and challenging countryside treasured for centuries by explorers and adventurers. It is a land of virtually unspoiled mountains blanketed by millennial glaciers towering above deep blue lakes, ancient forests, and some of the most enticing whitewater opportunities in South America. Traveling in this diverse region takes one along steep cliffs that drop into immense river valleys and on a continuous adventure of natural scenery of grand proportions. Countless opportunities abound to observe the Rhea, a bird similar to the Ostrich, the Guanaco, which is related to the Llama, and the Seal just to name a few. Throughout the trip, the Andes Mountains provide a striking landscape and reflect the power of this unique and truly captivating region. If you still long for Mother Nature...the silent beauty of Patagonia is Mother Nature alive.

What our guests are saying:
This was my 5th international paddling trip. I've taken trips with NOC and other competitors as well. They've all been really good trips, but this one was by far the best! I sure hope NOC will continue to do this trip.

Named by the Spanish explorer, Magellan, this area was originally inhabited by Indians. The name "Patagonia" is derived from the Spanish word "patagones" and literally means, "big feet". It refers to the race of "giant" Indians that lived there. To protect themselves from the extreme conditions of the region, the Mapuche Indians wrapped their feet in skillfully sewn animal skins, making their feet seem disproportionately large. Though this race all but disappeared during the exterminations of the 19th century, the intricate handiwork of the Mapuche artisan can still be observed and purchased in cities such as Coihaique and Valdivia. Today, local industries depend on forest products, cereals, and dairy farming.
