Costa Rica: Class II - III River Runner December 9 - 15, 2007 December 16 - 22, 2007 $1,475
Enjoy the never ending summer of exotic Costa Rica on the Sarapiqui River. Even though the day's are cool in the Northern Hemisphere, the warm waters of the Sarapiqui River and beautiful, lush countryside of Costa Rica provide the perfect environment for developing whitewater kayaking skills. The Class II stretch of the Rio Sarapiqui winds through verdant rainforest and manicured fields of sugar cane and bananas. The rapids are simple and there is enough flat water, as well as a swimming pool available for good rolling practice! The river corridor is teeming with bird life, toucans, parrots, bitterns, herons, hawks, oropendolas, and mot-mot birds are all commonly sighted. Epiphytes and orchids hang from huge trees directly over the water. What our guests are saying: I felt very well prepared and supervised. I never felt like I was endangered, over-extended, or unable to meet the group's expectations, yet I did feel challenged and was thrilled with the experience. I can't wait to do it again!!! Keep up the good work!!! Natalie Fayman Our Costa Rica River Runner trip is an exciting opportunity for kayakers to work on basic ferries, peel-outs and eddy turns in moving water, with some time to work on your flatwater and whitewater roll. We'll start on calm water and progress to moving and whitewater as we gain skills and confidence. With four to five hours of actual paddling per day, plenty of breaks and a great lunch, you'll learn a lot and still be able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Several nearby rivers can offer us a change of scenery, water levels permitting. After paddling each day, we'll return to nearby lodgings at La Quinta. This tropical paradise is perfect for relaxing. You can enjoy a cool drink while lounging in a hammock and watch the numerous species of hummingbird and butterflies coming to feed on various exotic flowers. Local musicians and plenty of snacks complete the perfect happy hour. We'll relax and enjoy traditional and delicious Costa Rican fare.
