Driving Directions: Nolichucky Outpost

All Nolichucky River trips depart from our Nolichucky River Outpost, located near the North Carolina and Tennessee border, off I-26, just outside of Erwin, TN. The outpost is 50 miles north of Asheville, NC, and 15 miles south of Johnson City, TN.

From Johnson City, TN - Take I-26 E. Just beyond Erwin, TN take Exit 40 (Old Exit 15), the Jackson-Love Hwy. Go to the stop sign, turn left and then turn right in front of Riverview Baptist Church. Go 0.7 miles to turn left onto River Road. At the next stop sign, turn left onto Chestoa Road. Immediately after crossing the river, turn right onto Jones Branch Road and follow it for 1.2 miles. Make a sharp right, and go past another company's property to reach our NOC Nolichucky meeting place.

From Asheville, NC - From I-240, take exit 19/23N (Future I-26 West) toward Johnson City, TN. Cross into Tennessee. Just before Erwin, take Exit 40 (Old Exit 15), Jackson-Love Hwy. Go to the stop sign, turn right and then right again in front of Riverview Baptist Church. Go 0.7 miles to turn left onto River Road. At the next stop sign, turn left onto Chestoa Road. From Knoxville, TN - Take I-40 East to I-81 North. Take I-81 North to I-26 East. Just beyond Erwin, TN take Exit 40 (Old Exit 15), Jackson-Love Hwy.
